"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

K-2 Literature Unit @ Co-Op
Although I do not consider myself a "Sonlight" gal (I had a near nervous break down after receiving my first teacher's manual.....waaaaaaay too structured for this hippieish home-educator)...I do love their core philosphy.... introduced to me 8 years ago?????

This little heroine is naughty, naughty, naughty. She didn't appreciate the lima beans that her mother had prepared for her.....so we did a dry bean craft...creating the grumpiest faces we could. We talked a lot about her choices and if she learned her lesson by the end of the story.
We even played w/fire (supervised activity :)
Ohhhhh......such a grumpy sassy pants....that Alexander is! He is ungrateful for a perfectly nice new pair of white shoes. We decided to design our own dream pair....reminding ourselves that it's alright to have a preference about things like sneakers but that we should be grateful for whatever the Lord provides.
Walter, Walter, Walter....his poor choice takes so many innocent people down with him....or does it??????? By the end of the story, Walter seems to have learned his lesson after all.

Here at home....we continued the unit w/Eloise....a perfect picture of an exasperated child. She reminds me very much of a female Dennis the Menace or Tom Sawyer. I have loved her since I was a child and I still do. We already owned the book and were thrilled to find the doll at Savers for $1.99 BRAND NEW!
And this afternoon we are hanging out on a farm with some horses....so this morning Zion (and the older girls too) are watching Flicker. Katy is another girl some find naughty....but I see her as exasperated and fascinating. I love her strength and determination and I love the lessons she teaches and the change she ultimately ushers in.

Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The other day we pass by a chain gang setting up by the side of the road.....preparing to do community clean up. The ladies are all dressed in black & white striped jumpers and Zion is very intrigued. Later that afternoon, she climbs into my lap and asks soberly if she will ever have to go to jail. "Well, no. Not if you obey the law...."....I assure her. She starts to cry. "But, I don't know the law. How can I obey it if I don't know it?" "Honey, people who choose to lie, cheat, and steal go to jail." She perks up a bit and wipes her tears. "Oh.....then I won't have to go to jail." A minute later...... after some quiet cuddles she looks up and says..."Is it against the law to marry your brother?" "Yes, that's against the law." More tears. "Then who am I going to marry?" ""Well, I know you are not going to marry your brother but I bet the Lord has a perfect man picked out for you. You may even already know your future husband. Is there anybody you know....besides your brothers....who maybe the Lord might one day reveal as your future husband?" A long pause and then a smile. "Yes."
"Who? Tell Mommy."
"_______."
""Ohhhhhhh.....What do you like about _______?".......I ask.
"His hair."
"Ohhhhhh.....I agree. His hair is is soooooooo great."
Then......through giggles......."And his face."
With all the Godly young men surrounding this little one....I do not know if her future husband stands a chance.

A few years ago...a certain person was "very concerned" about our choice to home-educate. Even though he had been completely hands off and uninvolved in his own children's education...he tried going down every possible avenue with us (socialization...accredidation...college acceptance...testing...socialization.... P.E.....the arts.... socialization....in an attempt to prove somehow that he knew best in this circumstance. Frustrated and agitated.....he kept hitting roadblocks when we would answer out of our convictions. Obviously exasperated....... he laid his final gauntlet on the table.
"Welllllllllllll............ what about S..C..I..E..N..C..E???????? What are you going to do about science?"
That one was easy.
"Find a friend who likes to teach it or hire a tutor."

Big Love
If anyone out there has a Big Love for Mormons....you absolutely MUST watch this show! I don't mean to tell you what to do....but...I am going to. It is is imperative. Tonight's episode was out of control. There was a black, truth telling, Baptist preacher who called Bill to task on his faith in a false gospel and the church's disgraceful history regarding the disgusting doctrine of a dark skin curse. There is the Israel/Native American issue. There is the church history inconsistencies. So much was covered just tonight.....the saddest possibly....being baptism by proxy (baptism for the dead.) Start at Season One and go all the way through.
Oh Lord, that eyes would be opened. That scales would be removed. Lord, that the you would reveal Yourself and do your saving work.
Brad and Sean lounging in the hallway???????..... surrounded by little girls in various stages of princess regalia.
