Little Desire That Could / Revisit

Okay so those of you who know me for any length of time...know that I am like a big pile of poop. Flies swarm around me.

Specifically... flies of the  SPIRITUAL WARFARE sort.

They find me.

I do not seek them out.

There was a long heartbreaking battle with an elder board over false teaching seeping into our old church...a battle initiated by the revelation of unbiblical instruction being sought & taught and unbiblical methods being employed by some in leadership.

There was a time when false teaching seeped into our home-fellowship and swayed our dear friends away from Biblically sound doctrine and practice.

The time when this false teaching landed smack in the middle of our home-schooling circle of relationships.

Recent times when the same issue is making it's presence known in a faith community I am involved with here in L.A. (not church.)

Very recent times where I am being asked to endorse through my writing...projects I simply cannot endorse and so I pass on "opportunities" in the professional world.

There is more.  You get the point.  It seems I am often being asked to deal with SPIRITUAL WARFARE stuff.

The enemy is crafty.  He is patient.  He waits.  Patiently.

A while back...I wrote....

this post

I have said it before and I will say it again...I am not going to pursue acting.  There is no way in heCk I am going to run around town getting all stressed out about my muffin top or crows feet while sizing up the competition in a roomful of desperate pre-menopausal hopefuls.

Not an idol. Not happening.

If the Lord wants me to act...He will bring opportunities.

If something falls in to my lap...of course...I will consider.

Not very realistic, I know...but my God is big and He does all sorts of miraculous things all the time.

And...we are doing our own stuff.  Stuff I am glad to be in.

So....cut to the chase....a friend asks me to be in a project.  I say, "Yes."  It was fun shooting it.  In and out.  Simple.  No biggie.

Out of the blue...months later...I get an e-mail from his friend, a director, telling me that she'd like me to play a role in a series she is doing.  I am surprised.  What?????? Really??????   I tell her I will read the script and get back to her.

I take a look at her website.  She's talented.  She's done some good work.  The script is good.

It deals with supernatural things.  People who see things...have visions...etc.

My character would be a sympathetic psychic who communes with dead people and teaches others how to do so.

I call up the director and tell her how humbled I am that she offered me the role.  How good the writing is.  And that I wish her all the best...but that.... as is...I would not be comfortable participating in the project.

I then go on to tell her that I came out of a past where things of this nature and whatnot were a part of my life...how I have experiences with horoscopes, ouija boards, and psychics.  How I had a change of life and became a Christian and feel as if there is only one way I would be able to play a role in this particular project.  It would be if I played a Christian in the setting she created.  In that world.  I went on to explain that there is a spiritual gift called Discernment... which I have been given.... and that many times I am able to quickly discern between good & evil...if something is of the Lord or not of the Lord.  I encouraged her to think about incorporating a character who speaks Biblical truth into the world of her story.

I have many friends who practice the sorts of things I used to practice.  I do not stop being near those loved ones because of the things they believe and do ...I love them.   However, I no longer partake in occult activities.

Because she is a generous & open -minded creative type and a good storyteller...the writer/director was completely open to talking further about my thoughts and the possibility of digging deeper with this idea in the future.

So for now, it is a "pass."

We shall see what the Lord does from here on out with my involvement in this project...if anything at all .

Because of the intricacies of my journey with the Lord...the SPIRITUAL WARFARE issue is an area I know I am specifically called to speak into.

The red flags He alerts me to are very personal and I know them to be highly intentional...and I am called to obedience.

As an actress...I am not necessarily opposed to playing a sloppy drunk...a floosie...a raging swearing bit*h...and I will even  consider tasteful nudity (think woman approaching 50 skinny dipping with her family at a lake/Little Miss Sunshine vibe.)

Just puttin' it out there, fellow filmmakers ;)

If we are the Lord's...He puts the desires of our hearts in there.  He gives them to us.  He's got our dreams. He knows all about them.  Obey Him.  And see what He does with the dreams.  Whatever He chooses for us is for our good and His glory.

Life of Death & Murder of Crowe

Brad's been busy lately...working with emerging filmmakers.  Lots of opportunities to minister to younger industry kids and some folks his own age too ;)

And the way this work is ministering to his heart and soul...so good.  So so good.

Life of Death Shoot

Directors/ Jeff Caparula and Kim Smither

Get this...it's so like the Lord....an actress, Hannah Barefoot....auditions and books the job.  Winds up she's a believer.  She and her husband go to Reality LA!!!!! ....and she's gonna check out the Tues. morning fellowship group I attend.

God.  My God, you are so wonderful and a masterful weaver.

Making Money - Rodney Rinks Project

Jul 31, 2014

Because obviously we are crazy people....

My husband got to act today.  And you have no idea how happy that makes me.

It's been a long time.  And a quiet season.  Not easy on him.  Not easy on me.  Not easy on the kids.  But....oh...ever so good for us.

Brad plays a pastor...who delivers the Word...a fact which does not escape us as he steps into his first role since our return to the industry we love so much... because obviously we are crazy people... THREE YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!

Three years without acting work.  Three years of dreams.  And confusion.  Three years of rejection and fear.  Three years of false starts...human efforts...being still...stepping out in faith...running ahead...and catching up.  Three years of preparation.  Of questions.  Three years of challenges.  Of two steps backwards and three forward.  Ultimately...three years of obedience to the call.

I swear...I think he is happier for the hope & joy this small role has brought to all of us than he is for himself.

Actually...I don't know.  He's over the moon.  I got every little detail of every little thing that happened on set.  He can't stop smiling.  Grinning from ear to ear.

Robert G. Zuckerman

Bradley and Robert have worked together twice before.  For this shoot...they met at The Farmer's Daughter and disappeared for an hour.

I wandered the property...taking in the plant life with the hotel manager.

What I like best about Bradley and Robert spending time together in the same space. ..there's many smiles.  And laughter.

And they call each other Schlomo.

Schlomo #1 and Schlomo #2.

Detective Bradley

We have a very encouraging neighbor.  He is also always willing to help in any way he can whenever a need arises.

This week he got to encourage and help.

Brad had the opportunity to audition for a film.  His role... a detective.

Bryan...our neighbor has ties to the LAPD so he got on the phone w/some officer over at some desk somewhere and helped Brad figure out the correct way to say some internal code.

And with the dialogue issue settled...he wanted Brad to "feel" the experience of being a cop...so he ran home to get something.  He came back with his bullet proof vest...which he made Brad put on.

Brad and I filmed the audition scenes and his agent sent them off to be looked at by casting & the director etc.

In his youth...Brad booked lots of tough guy roles.

Nowadays...I think he'd make a pretty good detective

We were on our way out the next day...when Bryan ran over to see how the audition taping went.

So encouraging.  And hopeful.

Third Tuesdays

SO this is Clint.  Clint played Mcabe's dad on an episode of Enlisted.

Mcabe and he really clicked and Mcabe's been telling Brad that they should really meet up for coffee.

After a few months...and just the other day...Bradley called Clint and they got together.

During their meeting...Clint kept saying things that ended with..."It all depends on your belief system."  "The most important thing is the belief system... As long as you have a good belief system."

So because Bradley is Bradley...after like the third time of this belief system thing coming up...Brad says..."Well, let me ask you a question, Clint.  What is your belief system?"

Clint doesn't bat an eye.  "Jesus Christ.  I'm a Christian."

Brad is blown away...and yells, "Brother!"

On set...Clint had picked up on something different about Mcabe and Mcabe had picked up on something different about Clint...and that led to Brad being brought in which led to me being brought in.

Clint invited us to a monthly event ministering to Christians in the entertainment industry.

Guess where it's held.

The Writer's Guild.

Last night Brad and I sat with our new friend and worshipped Jesus during a time of fellowship...praise & worship...and teaching.

When Crystal Lewis started to sing...All my Tears...I began to cry.

And I continued to cry.

My favorite song.

This all happened smack in the middle of Beverly Hills...where I grew up.  Off of Wilshire...in the Writer's Guild building.

Prayer Cards

On our way to Runyon Canyon...up in the Hollywood hills....off the beaten path....we passed by an odd sight.  A pole covered in what looked to be notes.  As we got closer...we saw that they were wishes.  Dangling in unison.  All individuals yet part of something bigger than themselves.

Our girls changed the wish cards into prayer cards.

Zion's was so sweet.  I love her.

In our limited understanding...it would be so wonderful if Bradley were blessed with some acting work right about now.

Any work that the Lord sees fit for him to do.  He's been sending out resumes like there's no tomorrow.

Prayers for work & encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

These two wishes caught my eye.

I wonder...who it is or what it is that people offer up their wishes to?  Who or what grants wishes? And how does who or what decide on which wishes get granted or not?

Brad's response...

How much do you think those veins/tendons would have went for on ebay?

I'm sick just thinking about it.

Running Lines

I walk into the living room yesterday to find Mcabe and Brad running lines.

And then I walk into the bedroom tonight to find them working through the kinks in the scene and adding nuances.

It's times like this when I pause...take a deep breath and know that we are exactly where the Lord has purposed us to be.

Being Home

One good thing about Bradley being home w/ us during the days...is that he's home with us during the days.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11
