The City of Angels
Near the beginning of our 3 mile loop ... we witnessed something that struck us all as..... maybe..... possibly quite troublesome. A nice looking 30ish year old guy...clean cut...well-groomed... appeared to be contemplating the thought of jumping off a cliff. He sort of hopped...then skipped straight for the edge...then stopped abruptly. Then he stood still and stared down. Then appeared to move towards the edge again...miming a diving motion.....with the thought of jumping?????
Those of us who saw it...made eye contact. This guy could very well be thinking of taking his own life.
Brad turned back...caught up with him and asked if he was okay.
Turns out the guy has a guardian angel. A lady angel who physically protects him from harm's way on a regular basis. He was merely testing her out.
He was very, very very touched by Brad's compassion. It had never occurred to him how skipping at a steady speed towards a cliff in such a whimsical yet intentional manner might look to others.

Moments I'd Like to Remember
P.S. And it just now occurred to me. Zion is apparently very attached to that headband.

Civil War / Veteran's Day
This year we commemorated Veteran's Day by attending a Civil War Re-enactment. I don't think the girls knew quite what to expect. It really was like stepping back into history.
These people know their stuff and take things to a crazy serious level. I was actually blown away by their passion & commitment. It's inspiring.
We were witness to The Wheat Field Fight at the Battle of Gettysburg...and to Pickett's Charge.
Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address. 2 1/2 minutes. That's all it took.
At some point during the speech Zion wanted to know... "Does this count as "school?"
The girls got trapped as the CALL TO ARMS came forth in the Union Camp.
And I absolutely love that 100's of little boys and girls were running around bearing arms.

I met my man when he was 19. Today he turns 47. That means I have known him 28 years.
28 years of my life have been spent with this man.
I am very pleased to be doing this thing called "LIFE" with him by my side.

Galilee Polina / Big 18
The first time ever I saw your face...little Polina.
It was cold. There was snow. Patches of snow. And talk of a dog...a sobaka. You liked the tea biscuits we bought for you...and for the others. You got them all though. Cuz there were not other children in the yard during our visit. Your voice was so raspy. You were very much afraid and talked and talked and talked. I could tell that you were afraid. And excited. And you were ready.
Galilee Polina.
It hasn't been easy... traveling this road the Lord has us on together. In fact, sometimes it's been really really really hard. You are a fighter. My prayer for you, Daughter.... is that you learn that being a fighter might feel safe but that it isn't always a good thing...especially if you are fighting for and against all the wrong things.
Today I am proud of all the hard work you have put into coming closer to an authentic place of transparency.
I will never ask you to be anything but honest.
Love,
Mom

Turning 18 makes me feel nervous cuz I'm becoming an adult. To hear that I am entering adulthood sounds scary. I need to make appropriate decisions and be more mature behaviorally. I need to take more responsibility. I'd say adulthood is a serious subject. This will definitely be a challenge for me. I'm kinda shocked to turn 18.
